Automatic removal

Choose an image in the original-image panel below.

Uses Fine AI by default; automatically falls back to Original AI if unsupported or unsuccessful. The model downloads on first use.

Choose an image, or paste one with Ctrl+V (⌘V on Mac).

Manual refinement

Paint on the original image: green Keep marks are always protected. Choose Erase marks to clear an area and paint it again.

The selection expands from where you click and stops at colors outside the tolerance or transparent pixels. It will not jump across a boundary to a matching color on the other side. This limit does not affect automatic background removal. Lower values create stricter boundaries; changes apply the next time you click.

Recommended workflow & keyboard shortcuts

Recommended workflow

  1. Upload an image, then select Remove Background to try Fine AI by default. Switch to Original AI and run it again for comparison; for solid, checkerboard, or striped backgrounds, you can also use Color detection.
  2. Check the subject outline and enclosed gaps in the Result panel. Switch to a white or dark preview background to spot remaining edge pixels.
  3. Use Keep to restore parts of the subject that were removed, and Remove to clear any remaining background.
  4. Leave Smart selection on for clearly bounded areas. It selects only connected pixels and does not cross a different-color boundary.
  5. For hair, thin lines, small details, or stubborn edge pixels, turn Smart selection off, reduce the brush size, and refine locally. Use Erase marks, Undo, and Redo to adjust at any time.
  6. When the transparent edge looks clean, download the transparent PNG.

Smart selection only includes pixels connected to where you clicked and within the chosen color tolerance. A color boundary blocks the selection, so matching white outside a ring cannot select matching white inside it. You can use Smart selection with both Keep and Remove; click each disconnected area separately. Red outlines show Remove areas and green outlines show Keep areas. You can show or hide them independently, and they are never included in downloads. Keep areas take priority, so Remove actions skip them. Choose Erase marks to clear either type of mark locally, then paint again. Turn off Smart selection for precise 1-pixel brush edits.
Use the mouse wheel to zoom over the original image, then drag to pan; both panels stay aligned. Zoom up to 3200%, and use Fit to return to the full image. Arrow keys move the brush one pixel; Space paints. Press Ctrl / ⌘ + Z to undo.
